The organ was built by Hill in 1884 and 1908, and contains some 1861 pipework by Holdich. The splendid musical structure provided a solid foundation for our major work of restoration and reinstatement, which was completed in August 2000.
A new console and actions were provided by Hill Norman & Beard in 1974; they also made substantial changes to the Choir Organ and to the Mixtures, but other changes were few.
The work by H & H consolidates the Hill scheme of 1908, but includes an enlarged Choir Organ. Alterations to the Hill pipework have been reversed, to create a slightly augmented version of the 1908 specification. New electro-pneumatic actions have been provided, and the console has reverted to the Hill style.
The new Nave Organ of 13 stops is in the north triforium, and is played from the main console in the organ loft high above the quire.
